EQUINET elects its new Executive Board and welcomes 4 new Members to its network

EQUINET held its 4th Annual General Meeting on 5-6 November 2009 in Brussels. During this event, a new Executive Board (mandate 2009-2011) was elected and the full membership of 4 organisations ratified.

Amongst the twelve nominated Board candidates, seven Board Members were elected by the Equinet voting delegates at the AGM held on 5-6 November 2009 in Brussels.  The new Equinet Executive Board will serve a 2-year term (2009 to 2011) and is now composed of the following Board Members:


• CHAIR: Mandana Zarrehparvar, Department Director, Danish Institute for Human Rights, Denmark
• Jozef De Witte, Executive Director, Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism, Belgium
• Domenica Ghidei, Commissioner, Equal Treatment Commission, Netherlands
• Katri Linna, Equality Ombudsman, Sweden
• Ingrid Nikolay-Leitner, Director, Ombud for Equal Treatment, Austria
• David Ruebain, Director of Legal Policy, Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), Great Britain
• Néphèli Yatropoulos, Adviser on European and International Affairs, High Commission Against Discrimination and for Equality (HALDE), France

EQUINET wishes to express its deep gratitude to these of the previous Board who stepped down and thanks all the nominated Board candidates for their involvement and interest.

 EQUINET welcomed four new members into the network at this occasion.The  European Network of Equality Bodies brings now together 33 organisations from 27 European countries. The following organizations have obtained their full membership statute further to an official ratification vote:

  • Defentsoria - Ombudperson's Office for the Equality of Women and Men (Basque Country- Spain)

  • Board of Equal Treatment (Denmark)

  • Ombudsman for Equality between Men and Women (Finland)

  • Office of the Public Defender of Rights (Czech Republic)
