On the 24th November, the European Commission published the Commission working document “Consultations on the future “EU2020” Strategy”, setting out the vision for the post Lisbon strategy 2010–2020. The Commission has invited comments on the suggested broad policy considerations for the future EU2020 strategy. Early in 2010, the European Commission should present a formal Communication addressed to the Spring European Council.

The current proposed stratgy include some key priorities for EU 2020, which could be summarised as follows:

  • Creating value by basing growth on knowledge;
  • Empowering people in inclusive societies; and
  • Creating a competitive, connected  and greener economy.

Equinet welcomes the opportunity to respond to the European Commission on the proposed "EU 2020 Strategy" and proposed several recommendations. Amongst them, the network of equality bodies highlights the need to invest in the elimination of discrimination as part of any successful exit strategy from the current crisis. Morevover, Equinet's response points out that the strategy should involve a process of equality and non-discrimination mainstreaming in relation to the final priorities established.
