Equinet Legal Seminar: the European anti-discrimination law and the role of the ECJ - 30 June 2009
On 30 June 2009 Equinet held a legal seminar on the European anti-discrimination legislation and on the role of the European Court of Justice.
This first Equinet legal seminar provided an overview of the scope of the EU legislation on equal treatment and the recent developments in the European Court of Justice’s judiciary. Speakers from different horizons (i.e. experts on anti-discrimination law, practitioners and equality bodies’ representatives) presented possible litigations and the impact of EU anti-discrimination legislation on grounds such as age, sexual orientation or disability.
The event was a great opportunity to discuss possible interpretations of the existing laws and to debate how national equality bodies can make use of their powers in relation to litigation before national and European courts.
